Automate the matter-opening checklist

Lesson 4 of 5 · Workflows & automation

1 · Learn the move · Power-ups + stakes

Opening a matter is twenty minutes of the same steps every time: conflicts check, engagement letter, matter code, folder, tracker row, calendar. Two-thirds of it is mechanical and the other third has a signature in it. Spec the flow so the mechanical steps run from one trigger and the signature steps queue for a person, with the conflicts check first and never skipped.

Spec the matter-opening flow. TRIGGER: a signed engagement letter lands in the intake folder. STEPS: conflicts check queued for a person (blocks everything); matter code assigned; folder created with the standard structure; tracker row written with the parties lettered; calendar entries only for dates the engagement letter states. HUMAN: conflicts clearance, engagement letter countersignature. RULE: the parties stay lettered in the model's output. Output as a numbered flow.

2 · Your turn. You write the prompt

Six new matters opened this week. Each took you twenty minutes of setup before any work happened. Specify the flow that takes the mechanical two-thirds off your desk.

Write the prompt for this scenario as given, or swap in a real one from your own work. The score works the same either way.

Remember: the AI sees only your prompt, not this page. If the situation isn't in your prompt, it doesn't exist.

Optional. These shape the output when you run your prompt below, not your score.
