Wrap the day into the matter file
Lesson 4 of 5 · The attorney's week
1 · Learn the move · Recipe pattern
A matter's real record is spread across a call log, a voicemail from opposing counsel, a text from the client, a note in the margin of a draft, and your memory, which is gone by Monday. A ten-minute wrap-up fixes that if it always has the same shape and never has a name in it when it goes through a tool. DONE: what happened, with the matter code on every line. DECIDED: what the client, the partner or you decided, one line each, with who said it by role. CHANGED: any date, position, figure or scope that moved, written as old value, new value, reason, never buried in prose. OPEN: what is unfinished, each with an owner by role and a date the court or the calendar gave, as it prints. AUTHORITIES OPENED: what you read today, so tomorrow's VERIFY list is shorter. The model sorts; it computes no deadline, because a deadline it computed is a deadline you did not check, and it adds no name.
Here are my scraps from today on matter [code], de-identified: [paste]. Sort them into DONE (with the matter code on every line), DECIDED (one line each, who by role), CHANGED (old value, new value, reason), OPEN (owner by role, date as the order or calendar prints it), AUTHORITIES OPENED (what I read today, with today's date). Do not compute a deadline, do not tidy a figure you cannot see in the scraps, and do not add any name. If a scrap fits nowhere, list it under UNSORTED.
2 · Your turn. You write the prompt
Six-thirty on a Thursday. The associate on matter M-2305 has a voicemail from opposing counsel proposing a deposition date, a text from the client about a document they just found, two authorities she opened on the expert-exclusion question, and the partner's margin note moving the position from 'oppose' to 'seek a continuance'. She wants it in the file before she leaves.
Write the prompt for this scenario as given, or swap in a real one from your own work. The score works the same either way.
Remember: the AI sees only your prompt, not this page. If the situation isn't in your prompt, it doesn't exist.
Optional. These shape the output when you run your prompt below, not your score.
